Capricorn Sound Studios and Museum
For its 50th anniversary, Capricorn Sound Studios reopened as a music incubator and museum featuring award-winning exhibits created by Riggs Ward Design in partnership with Mercer University and Building 4 Fabrication. The 1,200-square-foot space celebrates Southern Rock of the 1970s while highlighting Macon’s rich musical heritage, inviting visitors to explore the studio’s history through hands-on musical interactives, colorful displays, and curated artifacts.
Visitors can flip through albums in interactive bins, cue music to play in the museum or on headphones, and engage with interactive record players that let them create their own personalized musical experience. The space features photographs, album art, posters, large-scale murals, and dimensional letters that evoke the energy and nostalgia of a favorite record store. A dedicated photo backdrop encourages social sharing and extends the experience online.
The immersive museum design has earned multiple honors, including the Gold MUSE Creative Award (2021), Excellence in Rehabilitation Award (2021), and Gold SEMC Technology Award (2020), offering visitors an engaging, educational, and playful tribute to Southern Rock and Macon’s enduring musical legacy.
