Riggs Ward Design partnered with The City of Hampton to create functional, attractive, and informative signage for the Waterwalk at Central Park, a 2.25-mile shared-use trail in Hampton, Virginia. The signage supports both recreation and safe pedestrian and cyclist transportation while reflecting the character and natural assets of the park.

RWD developed a cohesive graphic identity for the trail, including a detailed park map, ensuring a visually consistent experience for visitors. The project included four trailhead signs, eleven wayfinding signs, fourteen interpretive displays, and assorted directional markers. Designs incorporated the City of Hampton logo and existing Waterwalk branding to maintain a unified look and feel.

All signage was created to be clear, accessible, and fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and other applicable codes. In addition to visitor experience, RWD considered long-term maintenance, durability, and site-specific factors such as lighting and potential alternate power sources, resulting in a comprehensive and sustainable signage program.
